Get Ready for Karnaval!

Bonaire Karnaval Parade

You don’t have to suffer through the crowds and mania of New Orleans during Mardi Gras or Trinidad or Dominica with their mega carnaval celebrations to get into the spirit of the season. Bonaire’s “Karnaval” as it is called is quite a bit tamer and more of a family-friendly affair with events such as a children’s parade and a kid’s festival. There is plenty of “adult fun” to be had as well. Enjoy the Grand Parades or wander to the Kralendijk Stadium parking lot on Tuesday night to watch the burning of an effigy of “King Momito,” the Carnival King.

It’s a lot of fun, but be prepared from some road and business closures. Our Reception staff will be happy to give you tips on how to best enjoy the celebrations. Some dates to consider:

February 18: Childrens Karnaval Parade in Rincon
February 19: Childrens Karnaval Parade in Kralendijk
February 25: Grand Karnaval Parade in Rincon
February 26: Grand Karnaval Parade in Kralendjik
February 27: Karnival Monday – Legal Holiday
February 28: Burning of King Momito
